What is live event painting?

A live event painter sets up an easel at your event and paints the scene as it unfolds: the first dance, the room at its best, the speeches or a key moment at a launch. Guests can watch the painting take shape through the evening.

The finished piece is a one-off keepsake. Painters often block in the background before the event and add people and details live, then finish any final touches afterwards if needed. Live illustrators can also sketch guests or capture a conference in quick drawings.

Where it works best

Conferences
Live illustration of the key ideas.
Gala dinners
A painting of the room for the host.
Milestone birthdays
A family keepsake of the celebration.
Charity auctions
A painting created on the night, ready to auction.
Launches
Your product or venue captured live.
Weddings
The first dance or ceremony on canvas.

Tips from our team

1
Agree the scene in advance
Decide which moment you want captured, so the painter can plan the composition.
2
Share photos of the venue
Photos before the day help the painter prepare the background.
3
Place the easel well
The painter needs a clear view of the scene, good light and a protected spot away from busy walkways.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Stromness have rules for performers?

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do live event painters cost in Stromness?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Travel is part of the quote, and Stromness is 208 miles north of Edinburgh. Send us your date and venue for free, no-obligation options.

Which postcodes around Stromness do you cover?

All of KW16, including Orkney Islands, plus the rest of North Scotland and nearby Kirkwall, Thurso, Wick and Lybster.

Is the painting finished on the night?

Often, yes. Some painters add final details afterwards and deliver the finished piece later. We confirm this with you.

What size is the painting?

Sizes vary by painter and the time booked. Tell us where you plan to hang it and we will suggest a size.

What does the painter need on site?

A small floor area with a clear view, good light and protection for the floor if needed.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Friday and Saturday dates in December and the summer months go first, often months ahead. Short notice is sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Can the performers match our theme or brand colours?

Usually, yes. Tell us your theme, colours or brand guidelines and we will suggest the costumes and acts that fit best.

Do you work with our venue and event team?

Yes. We agree access, changing space, timings and any venue rules before the day, and work to your run of show.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
