What live music options can we book?

Function bands play the hits your guests know, usually in two or three sets, and keep the dance floor full. Roaming musicians, such as acoustic trios, strolling strings or a small jazz group, move through the room during drinks and dinner without needing a stage.

Brass and marching bands make a big entrance or lead guests to dinner, oompah bands suit Bavarian and après-ski themes, and brass carol groups suit Christmas. Most bands can mix live sets with a playlist or DJ between sets.

Where it works best

Drinks receptions
Roaming acoustic trios.
Bavarian and après-ski themes
An oompah band in full costume.
Entrances
A marching band leading guests in.
Summer parties
Live music on a lawn or terrace.
Weddings
A band to fill the dance floor.
Christmas parties
Live hits and brass carols.

Tips from our team

1
Mix roaming and stage
Roaming musicians early and a band later gives the night a natural build.
2
Know your sound limits
Some venues have noise limiters or curfews. Tell us and we will choose the right band.
3
Check the stage space
Bands need a performance area sized to the line-up, plus power. We send a simple tech sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Stromness have rules for performers?

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do live bands and roaming musicians cost in Stromness?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Travel is part of the quote, and Stromness is 208 miles north of Edinburgh. Send us your date and venue for free, no-obligation options.

Which postcodes around Stromness do you cover?

All of KW16, including Orkney Islands, plus the rest of North Scotland and nearby Kirkwall, Thurso, Wick and Lybster.

How long do bands play?

Most function bands play two or three sets through the evening. We agree the timings with you.

Do roaming musicians need power?

Usually not. Acoustic and brass groups can play anywhere in the venue.

Can the band play our first dance?

Often, yes, with enough notice. Send us the song and we will check.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Friday and Saturday dates in December and the summer months go first, often months ahead. Short notice is sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Can the performers match our theme or brand colours?

Usually, yes. Tell us your theme, colours or brand guidelines and we will suggest the costumes and acts that fit best.

Do you work with our venue and event team?

Yes. We agree access, changing space, timings and any venue rules before the day, and work to your run of show.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
