What is a silhouette cutter?

A silhouette cutter is an artist who cuts a guest's profile freehand from black paper using only scissors and a sharp eye, usually in a couple of minutes. The finished silhouette is mounted on card for the guest to take home.

It is an old craft with a vintage charm that suits weddings, Gatsby and Parisian nights and elegant corporate events. Because each cut is quick, an artist can see a steady stream of guests, and watching it happen is part of the entertainment.

Where it works best

Corporate receptions
A personal gift guests actually keep.
Parisian themes
Old-world charm for a French night.
Christmas parties
A personal take-home from the night.
Weddings
A keepsake favour for every guest.
Gatsby nights
A vintage art form for a 1920s party.
Brand events
Silhouettes mounted on branded card.

Tips from our team

1
Manage the queue
Place the artist where a queue will not block a walkway or the bar.
2
Brand the mounts
Silhouettes can be mounted on cards with your names, date or logo.
3
Set up in good light
A bright, even light on the guest's profile makes for a crisp silhouette.

On our list, Rainton Meadows Arena (up to 1500 guests), Newcastle Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park (up to 600 guests) and Newcastle Marriott Hotel MetroCentre (up to 400 guests) can take 400 or more guests. Tell us your venue and numbers and we will plan silhouette cutters around the space.

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do silhouette cutters cost in Newcastle upon Tyne?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Yes. Cards can be printed with your names, date, event title or logo.

Can couples or children be cut together?

Often, yes. Ask the artist on the day, as group silhouettes take a little longer.
