What is a contortion act?

Contortionists are performers with extreme flexibility and strength who fold, bend and balance in ways that look impossible. Acts range from slow, sculptural poses on a plinth to full choreographed routines and squeezing in and out of small boxes or props.

Contortion works as ambient entertainment during a drinks reception, as a short stage spot between courses, or combined with props like a giant glass. It is a core part of any circus night and a strong choice for launches that need a talking point.

Where it works best

Between courses
A short stage spot at a gala dinner.
Christmas parties
A showpiece moment that gets people talking.
Prop acts
Contortion inside a giant glass or frame.
Launches
Emerging from a box or prop for a reveal.
Circus themes
A classic big-top act.
Drinks receptions
Slow, sculptural poses on a plinth.

Tips from our team

1
Pair with good lighting
A spotlight on a slow contortion routine makes it far more dramatic.
2
Provide a plinth or riser
A raised, stable platform lets everyone see the act and keeps the performer safe.
3
Allow warm-up time
Contortionists need a warm private space to warm up before each set.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Forres have rules for performers?

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do contortionists cost in Forres?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Travel is part of the quote, and Forres is 116 miles north of Edinburgh. Send us your date and venue for free, no-obligation options.

Which postcodes around Forres do you cover?

All of IV36, including Kinloss, Moray, Findhorn and Mundole, plus the rest of North Scotland and nearby Nairn, Elgin, Rothes and Fochabers.

Is contortion suitable for a corporate event?

Yes. It is an acrobatic skill, and we brief the performer on costume and tone for your audience.

How much space does a contortionist need?

Very little. A stable plinth or small clear area is usually enough, plus a warm space backstage.

Can a contortionist work with our props?

Often, yes. Boxes, frames and giant glasses all work. Tell us the idea and we will check it with the performer.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Friday and Saturday dates in December and the summer months go first, often months ahead. Short notice is sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Can the performers match our theme or brand colours?

Usually, yes. Tell us your theme, colours or brand guidelines and we will suggest the costumes and acts that fit best.

Do you work with our venue and event team?

Yes. We agree access, changing space, timings and any venue rules before the day, and work to your run of show.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
