What is a silhouette cutter?

A silhouette cutter is an artist who cuts a guest's profile freehand from black paper using only scissors and a sharp eye, usually in a couple of minutes. The finished silhouette is mounted on card for the guest to take home.

It is an old craft with a vintage charm that suits weddings, Gatsby and Parisian nights and elegant corporate events. Because each cut is quick, an artist can see a steady stream of guests, and watching it happen is part of the entertainment.

Where it works best

Gatsby nights
A vintage art form for a 1920s party.
Christmas parties
A personal take-home from the night.
Corporate receptions
A personal gift guests actually keep.
Parisian themes
Old-world charm for a French night.
Weddings
A keepsake favour for every guest.
Brand events
Silhouettes mounted on branded card.

Tips from our team

1
Brand the mounts
Silhouettes can be mounted on cards with your names, date or logo.
2
Manage the queue
Place the artist where a queue will not block a walkway or the bar.
3
Set up in good light
A bright, even light on the guest's profile makes for a crisp silhouette.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Truro have rules for performers?

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do silhouette cutters cost in Truro?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Travel is part of the quote, and Truro is 117 miles south-west of Cardiff. Send us your date and venue for free, no-obligation options.

Which postcodes around Truro do you cover?

All of TR1, TR2, TR3 and TR4, including St Mawes, Probus, Cornwall, Tregony, Grampound Road and Goonhavern, plus the rest of Cornwall and nearby St Agnes, Falmouth, Newquay and Camborne.

How long does each silhouette take?

Usually a couple of minutes per guest, so an artist can see a good number of guests in a session.

Can the silhouettes be personalised?

Yes. Cards can be printed with your names, date, event title or logo.

Can couples or children be cut together?

Often, yes. Ask the artist on the day, as group silhouettes take a little longer.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Friday and Saturday dates in December and the summer months go first, often months ahead. Short notice is sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Can the performers match our theme or brand colours?

Usually, yes. Tell us your theme, colours or brand guidelines and we will suggest the costumes and acts that fit best.

Do you work with our venue and event team?

Yes. We agree access, changing space, timings and any venue rules before the day, and work to your run of show.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
