What does a compere or MC do?

A compere or MC hosts your event from the stage: welcoming guests, introducing speakers and acts, running awards, filling gaps and keeping the night to time. A good host makes the whole event feel organised and relaxed.

Hosts can be polished and formal for an awards ceremony, warm and funny for a family day, or in character, such as a ringmaster for a circus theme. They work closely with your running order and your AV team.

Where it works best

Circus themes
A ringmaster to introduce every act.
Awards ceremonies
Running categories, winners and timings.
Conferences
Linking speakers and sessions.
Weddings
A host to keep the day running smoothly.
Gala dinners
Auctions, raffles and speeches.
Family fun days
Hosting games, shows and announcements.

Tips from our team

1
Share the running order early
A host who knows the plan can keep everything on time and smooth over any changes.
2
Plan the microphones
Agree radio mics and stage cues with your AV team before the day.
3
Brief them on names
Speakers, winners and VIPs should come with correct pronunciations.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Truro have rules for performers?

Many hotels and country houses have rules on ceiling rigging, fire, access times and changing space. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check everything before we confirm.

How much do comperes and MCs cost in Truro?

There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on the acts, the number of performers, timings, travel and location, so we quote each booking individually. Travel is part of the quote, and Truro is 117 miles south-west of Cardiff. Send us your date and venue for free, no-obligation options.

Which postcodes around Truro do you cover?

All of TR1, TR2, TR3 and TR4, including St Mawes, Probus, Cornwall, Tregony, Grampound Road and Goonhavern, plus the rest of Cornwall and nearby St Agnes, Falmouth, Newquay and Camborne.

Can the host run our awards?

Yes. Send the running order and categories and the host will prepare their script.

Can the MC be in character?

Yes. A ringmaster, a 1920s host or a themed character all work. Tell us your theme.

Does the MC need a microphone?

Yes. Most venues or AV teams supply radio mics. We confirm the setup in advance.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Friday and Saturday dates in December and the summer months go first, often months ahead. Short notice is sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Can the performers match our theme or brand colours?

Usually, yes. Tell us your theme, colours or brand guidelines and we will suggest the costumes and acts that fit best.

Do you work with our venue and event team?

Yes. We agree access, changing space, timings and any venue rules before the day, and work to your run of show.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
